After Tom's retirement in 2007, the struggles of his childhood sexual abuse were magnified because he didn't have the focus of work or the tiring routine of travel to hide behind. The Sunday he went to church and saw the magic words "Support Group for Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse" in the bulletin changed his life. It began a process of healing that he never conceived as possible.

It has been said that we cannot know ourselves unless we seek to know God. The opposite is also true: We cannot know God intimately without pursuing self-knowledge. These two longings--the desire for God and the desire for inner wholeness--are inextricably entwined.
