Are you willing to weather the storm to see the rainbow?

The storm was treacherous, but the rainbow is worth it.

Greetings from my new home! I am a bit late in getting this message out to you because I have been busy moving my family into my dream house. For years we have been busting at the seams of the little condo that my husband and I bought when we were first married. Since becoming a growing family of four we have been striving to afford a bigger place. Job losses for both of us as well as the declining real estate market meant that we were destined to stay trapped for years in that tiny condo box for years. At times it felt hopeless, but we didn't give up.

We have finally arrived.

As laborious and demanding as the journey was, I now feel as if I am standing on the top of Mt. Everest. I barely remember the turmoil and tears that got us here. All I can feel right now is pure gratification...and a little bit of shock that I actually made it.

I can't wait to talk more about my journey with you on Friday!  Will you celebrate with me?

There is more to celebrate...

Several of my friends this year have been nominated for Oscars. Crazy right? That heavy gold statuette that only America's Royalty have had the honor of clutching in their perfectly manicured hands? Not the people I know. These are true stories of everyday ordinary folks like you and me who have risen to the top with passion, tenacity, and a whole lot of drive. We have the great opportunity to learn from their journey.

We have one of the biggest giveaways ever this week!

Joining us as a guest this week is Jacqueline Green, the founder of The Great Parenting Show...and wait until you see what she is giving away!!

Strategize. Succeed. SPARKLE.

What is the SPARKLE EFFECT?

Much like the butterfly that has the ability to alter the weather with a simple flap of its wings,  we have the power to create change...within ourselves, in the children we raise, in the businesses we build, and in the world we live in. It all starts with a simple mindshift.

The Sparkle Effect is a lot like the Butterfly Effect... only fancier.

Last week I talked about a profound experience I'd gotten fully engrossed in, and how amidst a busy schedule I'd found myself reaching out to a complete stranger who was in the process of breaking out of a voilent and abusive marriage and rebuilding a new life for herself and her 3 children. Learning about Chrissy Harmon's brush with death after being beaten by her husband rocked my core, had me up until 3am desperately trying to track her down, and ultimately landed her a possible opportunity to get massive support through a reality series on OWN TV. Listen to last week's show now--->.

There is no better way for us to break out of our entitlement attitudes than to see someone who might not have it so easy.

As parents and business people, we can't help but want to leave our mark on the world. Often, we become so busy we don't stop to notice how much we are already making a difference.

Are you aware of you sphere of influence?

When you blog, do you think about who might be affected by your words? When you post a simple facebook status update or send out a tweet, do you give much thought to the impact you may be having on a single person who may be browsing several months after you posted?

This week, please welcome Kristi Lynn Olson, an Entrepreneur Success Strategist for Women. If you are tired of being invisible and insignificant, and ready to share your unique gifts and talents with the world- you'll want to get to know Kristi. An expert in helping women unlock their true sparkle and discover their purpose, Kristi will be joining us Friday to share tips and tricks that will be sure to get you noticed.

What should you do when you have become an overworked and overloaded work-at-home mom?

Blow everything off and go to Disneyland.

And that is exactly what I will be doing tomorrow.

Why?

BECAUSE I CAN.

I admit it. That overworked and overloaded mom lately is me. Ever since my rocket touched the 2012 atmosphere, my business and my family life has hit warp speed. My schedule is booked with private coaching until March, the kids are operating with a new level of nutty energy (as they are most likely ready to get back to school), and since we are busting out of the teeny little condo that my husband and I bought when we were first married,  we have decided to sell it and look for a bigger place.

There is nothing drastic, dire or tragic here.  In fact, everything that is occuring is due to growth, expansion, and prosperity - all things to be grateful for.

WOW...is this fortunate and privileged mom really... complaining? The truth is when we are knee deep in the chaos, and we haven't left room to reflect each day, we get easily jumbled, muddled and cluttered. It becomes difficult to see clearly all that we should be grateful for.

Has this ever happened to you?

The good news is that as our own bosses, we have the luxury of calling ourselves into the big office, patting ourselves on the back for working an obscene amount of overtime, and granting ourselves the day off to take our kids to a theme park.

This is why we became self-employed in the first place. Sure, it is 3 times the amount of work for a fraction of the paycheck, but the freedom to do whatever the heck you want on any given day is PRICELESS.

How often do you take advantage of your role as boss and announce that today will be a "fun day"? I'll tell ya, nothing is more freeing as a work-at-home-mom-o-holic.

I will be back from the Happiest Place On Earth this Friday, just in time to introduce you to my friend and guest of the hour, Dawn Billings. Now there is a lady who knows how to put the fun in her step. I've never met anyone with such vision for the unconquered. Dawn is a big dreamer, but more importantly, she is a big DOER.

Enjoy the rest of your week. Friday will be a great day!

Get Your Kids to Listen Without Repeating, Nagging or Yelling

How different would your day-to-day be if you never had to nag your kids again?

What a happy 2012 it would be!

I hope that you had a wonderful holiday celebration with your families! My greatest wish is that you gifted yourself with some much needed YOU time  before the year ended. There is nothing better than to hit the ground running with intense enthusiasm for a bright new year after being completely refreshed from a relaxing holiday.  Are you laughing yet?

The reality is that the holidays can be pretty stressful for everyone - especially for parents, and even more so for those who have chosen to stay at home. Somehow we manage to become more run down from our vacations than from our double careers. You wouldn't be alone if you found yourself secretly counting the seconds before the kids return to their school schedules. Does this sound a bit more familiar?

What if I told you that I had a gift for you that would make your job as a parent a whole lot easier? Imagine being rid of daily annoyances like toddler melt-downs, sibling rivalry and nagging to get your children to do their chores.  Wouldn't that make your life a lot less hectic and a lot more productive? Imagine what you could do with all of that stress-free and unflustered time!

That is why I am truly over the moon to be introducing you to our guest this Friday, Amy McCready, Founder of Positive Parenting Solutions and an expert who has appeared on Today and The Rachael Ray Show, among many others.

I had the priviledge of reading her book over my holiday vacation,  called "If I Have to Tell You One More Time..." The Revolutionary Program That Gets Your Kids to Listen Without Nagging, Reminding or Yelling.

Believe me when I tell you- I have been blown away by the affects of these incredible tools that get your kids to listen. If it worked on my strong-willed little devils, it will work on yours! Simple and concise, this strategy is for every parent looking to raise respectful, well-behaved, and well-adjusted children, whether dealing with a willful two-year old or a power-seeking twelve year old.

I loved this strategy so much, I couldn't resist sharing it with you. This is my gift to you to begin the new year right. So... Happy New Year!!

We have decided to sponsor Amy McCready by hosting a FREE WEBINAR  just for my special listeners.

What busy and involved parent wouldn't want to start the new year off with more serenity, less conflict and a lifetime of peacefulness?

Learn to Live in Your Truth

It's my birthday, and I am coming out.

Nope, I am not gay.

But like those who are, the best way to embrace your unique value with dignity and self love is to make the most important purchase of your life and own the rights to your personal truth. My friend, Rick Clemons, known as "The Coming Out Coach" taught me that, and he'll be joining me on the show Friday.

As you know, I am on a mission to bring home 1 million parents.

I have been incredibly focused on this bold endeavor which has delightfully led me to connecting with compassionate and purposeful parents like you across the world. I have been hell-bent on helping you to claim your freedom so that you are able to adequately parent, provide and nurture your families, as well as yourselves, on your own terms

While deep in our determination to achieve what we have set out to accomplish,  it is easy to lose track of our core intuitions... and I am no exception.  This very often happens to the best of us when we become fearful of taking risks or, as in my case, taking firm stances on issues that are immensely important to us and those we love.

Tomorrow is my birthday and I have decided to celebrate it with you by talking freely on topics that I have held back on in the past. My birthday wish is that you will join me with love, compassion, and an open heart.

Join me in reaching new heights of clarity as we celebrate all that makes us singularly remarkable, and honor our personal enthusiasm for who we are- without apology.

Success through Sensuality; Productivity through Passion.

S-E-X is not a dirty word.

..and the only reason I am spelling it out like that is to avoid getting tagged as spam. (Sad, isn't it?)

As you probably have already guessed, we are going to get into some juicy conversations this Friday.  So often we tip toe around topics like pleasure and passion...and as a result we may be denying ourselves abundant wealth, health and quality of life. Yep, s-e-x is a necessary topic. The word has gotten a bad rap over the last several decades and yet it is one of the most natural ways to boost health and stamina, increase immunity, creativity and productivity as well as earn a better income. So if you want to put the sexy back into your business (as well as the bedroom) you won't want to miss Friday's show!

WHAT? S-E-X can help me grow my business?

Yes, absolutely. Ever hear of Oxytocin? Known as the "love hormone",  it helps women to love, bond and call upon their most creative channels. So wouldn't it make sense to take full advantage of... this natural hormone when we are experiencing disconnect with ourselves, our partners, and even our businesses?

Has This Little Parent Stayed Home gone ... p-o-r-n??

Not at all. But we won't hold back on sharing any relevant topic with you. This week I am going to bring on my friend, Bonnie Gayle, the inventor of a product called S-e-x Butter. You won't want to miss her incredible story of how she found success with a product that so many people shied away from.

About Our Guest

Bonnie Gayle

Bonnie's experience on negative body image and self-deprecation stems from a past filled with traumatic sexual experiences that led to an eating disorder. At 41, early perimenopause caused her body to shut down s-e-xually, sending Bonnie on a quest to find something that didn't exist. S-e-x Butter, an empowering, enhancing, and healing agent, was born. Today, Bonnie has conquered her personal traumas and uses her experiences to help women blossom. She continues spreading her message of women's s-e-x-u-a-l empowerment and body liberation through speaking, blogging, and marketing S-e-x Butter and Amida Oil, empowering products.

What is Your Brainchild?

The most effective enterprises come from our own experiences.

It happens to all of us. We get an amazing product idea based on our own desire to fulfill a personal need. We consider putting our brainchild into action, get spooked by the unknown and let the idea fizzle away. Then we freak out when we learn that someone else had the same idea, and is making a nice living off of our brainchild.

If this has happened to you on more than one occasion, its time to re-evaluate and re-engage. Don't let another brilliant concept pass you by.

There are so many reasons that I am excited to share this week's guest with you. Kelly Lester, the inventor of EasyLunchboxes, is that Mom Entrepreneur. You know, the one who created a product that seems so simple in retrospect that nearly anyone could have come up with it, but she was the one who took the ball and ran with it. She is the one who took action, and she did it with full commitment- without reservation, without exception, and without excuses. In less than 3 years, Kelly's product has taken the lunchbox industry by storm becoming the top lunchbox product on Amazon.com, and the most talked about lunchbox campaign on the web today. All of this was executed without spending a single advertising dollar. READ MORE ABOUT KELLY LESTER HERE--->

Oh yeah. There is a lot we can learn from Kelly Lester.

And her product? We unofficially announced on our facebook fanpage that our giveaway this week would be one of her complete lunchbox systems, and we already have people clamoring to win. Wouldn't you love to know her secrets?

In addition to getting the inside scoop about her incredibly successful launch pad, Kelly will be sharing some of her best tips for creating a healthy and fun food lifestyle for our families.

...AND because Kelly happens to be a really FUN friend of mine, we're going to have a BLAST. (That is just a given...)

Kelly Lester is the owner, creator, and mom behind Easylunchboxes.com and the host of the musical web series “Let's Do Lunch!” Though she is a singer and actress who can also turn a mean cartwheel, juggling is not one of her skills — except, of course, when it comes to her personal life. During the last two decades she has also been an entrepreneur, wife, and mother of three.

Easylunchboxes was born out of Kelly’s innate ability to do things efficiently while on a shoestring budget, and her desire to send her daughters to school with simple, healthy food, with little to no extra packaging or ingredients. Her past struggle with weight control inspires her to teach and model healthy eating habits for her children, and has fueled her dedication to always send them off to school with a great lunch.

As a creative mom who knows how to makeover a lunch box, Kelly has been seen across the country in TV news segments featuring this topic. Kelly is also an accomplished actress and singer who has been seen on stage as well as on the small and big screen, and has a part in the new Clint Eastwood film, J Edgar, coming out this month. She juggles family and business on an hourly basis, tirelessly alternating between having her hands on the computer keyboard and the steering wheel of her minivan.

Parents, we are way too connected to ever feel alone again.

It's not only children who grow.  Parents do too.  As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours.  I can't tell my children to reach for the sun.  All I can do is reach for it, myself.  ~Joyce Maynard

I have had the pleasure of connecting with thousands of parents in the last 4 years, and that number grows rapidly each day. One thing that remains consistent in what I have learned from you as parents: We really are more alike than different.

It should come as no surprise that we are motivated by the exact same thing:

Our love for our children.

We may be activated through different means of achieving our goals, different passions, career aspirations and lifestyle visions, but the driving force is still the same.

Why then, do we feel so alone?

Today there is a greater ability to connect with one another than in any past generation.

There has never been a better time for moms and dads to claim their place in society and earn their way to freedom, all while making a difference for our children and the future that awaits them. Thanks to the interactive media, gone are the days of the lonely house parent who has no means of connecting to other grown-up intelligence. We have resources!

We must realize our potential as a community, our power as consumers, and the promise for a significant impact by committing to COLLABORATION.

There is a science behind all of this and when closely examined, it equals progress.

This week, I am going to be introducing you to one of my most favorite people, Sundara Delphini. A single mom, a doctor of alternative medicine, an expert in spiritual wellness, and a master of energy and quantum physics. There is no better way to describe her... Sundara is a HEALER. Together we will be discussing the very energy that surrounds us, binds us and connects us- and how to harness it for our advantage in this forward movement.

READ MORE ABOUT SUNDARA DELPHINI--->

Joining me also this week will be a very special guest co-host, one of the loyal and dedicated staff members of OurMilkMoney.com, Wendy Conte, Certified Bookkeeper and Quickbooks ProAdvisor for more than twenty years, and a terrific example of a successfully self-employed parent with an ideal niche.

Sports Widows, learn a little sports(wo)manship and you'll score every time.

If life is a contact sport... just seize the remote.

I admit it. I am a disenfranchised companion of a hopeless sports fanatic. Every year during the baseball season and then during football season…and then again during basketball and hockey season, I become a sports widow. My usually amazing, supportive and attentive husband disappears into an alternate universe. He becomes engrossed in our TV and is oblivious to anything occurring outside of the flat screen. He is visually as well as audibly impaired and deprived of common reality. Not only do I lose my husband's mental state to the sports world, I lose him emotionally as well. Suddenly his moods become dependent on how his team performed that day.

During the season, my family also gets to witness overly superstitious behavior bordering on OCD.  I don't just mean wearing a favorite shirt or chanting a team mantra- I mean the belief that if he doesn't eat the right food or sit in the perfect position- that he personally will have a negative affect on the outcome of the game.

If you would like to get back to loving your man (rather than loathing the Super Bowl)  rest assured- help is on the way. I cannot wait to bring on our special guest of the week, Leah Jantzen- a fellow Toginet host, stay-at-home mom, life coach, and brilliant expert in helping the abandoned sports wives become abundantly sports savvy. We'll be discussing how to meet your sports-a-holic half way,  how to find your inner sports fan amid the sports aversions you think you might have, and how to use these televised sporting events to work to your advantage.

Be Your Own Boss, Define Success on Your Own Terms, and Claim Your Freedom!

Give yourself permission to be the boss of you.

Today I had a conversation with my 5 year old about being the boss of himself, and how he shouldn't worry about what everyone else is doing on the kindergarten play yard. Interesting concept, isn't it? All too often we see a clear path to success for others much more than we see for ourselves.

I remember when I wasn't the boss of myself... when I had a job working for someone else. Several jobs, actually. Although I didn't know it at the time, I lacked 2 things that I will never take for granted as my own boss again: Freedom and choice.

I just came back from an empowering conference called "Woo Hoo Weekend" with Lisa Steadman- where I had the privilege of speaking to a fantastic group of men and women about our choices as parents who are self-employed. For many of us, the desire to become our own boss didn't fully transpire until we became parents. We talked about the physical, mental and emotional transformation that came about once our children became the centerpiece in our lives. No matter how much we had prepared, everything took a detour once baby made 3.

In some ways, parenthood gave us more clarity and more self-purpose than we'd ever known, or ever expected to know. In other ways, it presented us with fear, worry and loneliness that would keep us up late to serve our families and our businesses - but rarely ourselves.

Now more than ever, there should never be a question how necessary it is that we claim our success and stand up for our smart and savvy selves. No one can travel down your path, hold your actions accountable, or celebrate your story as well as you.

I am thrilled to be inviting a dear friend to the show on Friday -  a passionate parent and wow-woman with aptitude, drive and mom power, Jill Leberknight. I know you will find her to be as inspirational as I do!

Jill Leberknight stars as “Buttermilk Biscuit” in the Emmy award-winning PBS Television series, “The Biscuit Brothers” and our giveaway this week is 2 Buttermilk Biscuit CD’s with songs performed on the show. Want to win?

The scariest month of the year could reveal what you are most afraid of...Success.

You might be holding a magic wand.

If you've been following along each week, you have most likely been planting seeds for awhile now. Like the vegetables and flowers in your garden, the seeds need nourishment. Water, sunlight, soil and love. If you have been diligently tending to the seeds of your home based business,  there is no telling when they could sprout! For some, seeing those sprouts can be very exciting. For others, overwhelming and downright SCARY.

What if that big break to happened TOMORROW?

The truth is that we are often not prepared for that million dollar break, and it could be a likely reason why it has not happened yet. Are you sabotaging your own success?

I believe in the power of manifestation and that often we will subconsiously wish away the things that we are working so hard to acheive- because deep down we don't feel prepared to handle the success.

I am afraid...

...if the local news station runs a segment about me, too many people would see, want to buy my product and I wouldn't have enough inventory.

...if I took on more clients, I wouldn't be able to find the time to service them.

...if I made a big sale, I'd have to hire contract help, and then I'd have to pay them.

...if Oprah comes calling, there wouldn't be anyone to pick up my kids from school.

Sounds crazy right? These may be other people's fears, but if you are willing to dig a little deeper,  you may discover that you have some irrational fears of your own. The truth is, these are common fears that I have heard from many of the self-employed parents that I talk with and coach.

Could it be that you are actually afraid of success?

Let's at least be honest about WHY you might posses these fears of success. Once you are able to clearly see what is holding you back, a magic wand will be revealed to you. It may be as simple and clear as making a choice to wave it and be ready for bigger and better things.

Join us this Friday when we talk about FEAR (in honor of the scariest month of the year)!!

I am thrilled to be welcoming back a favorite guest, Danny Koefke! You may remember him as the school teacher and author who told us that if his entire family could thrive on a teacher's salary, you could survive on fixed budget as well.

How to Bring Your Current Career Home: The Power of the Telecommute Proposal

You'd love to leave your day job and come home full time, but then how would you put food on the table?

You are not alone in your desires, and you are willing to explore every viable option, but in the end, you feel lucky to have a job and a steady paycheck. You don't want to mess with decent fortune in this economy, so instead of rocking the boat you stay right where you are - despite the fact that you really wish you had more time at home with your family.

No one blames you for being torn between having big dreams and staying comfortable in your current reality.

So lets explore something new. Telecommuting.

Keep the job. Lose the commute.

Not only can you have your cake and eat it too, but by proposing a telecommute option to your current employer, you will be contributing to a growing trend and paving the way for others to do the same.

You may not realize this but most people who are currently telecommuting for their employer originally believed it wasn't an option. The reality? Telecommuting is a growing trend BECAUSE of the tremendous value it provides for the employee as well as the employer. New research shows that employee productivity increases when given more freedom and flexibility to work from a remote location. Telecommuting is also attractive to larger companies because it saves on overhead by downsizing the physical workplace.

Join us this Friday when we share with you just how mobile today's workforce really is!

Joining us are Peter Mann, CEO of Oransi, a green home products company that strongly encourages their employees to telecommute, and Kate Lister from the Telework Research Network.

Co-hosting with me this week is one of my most talented and dedicated staff members, Roz Walker, Director of Marketing and Business Development at OurMilkMoney.com.

We'll be making a big announcement on Friday!  If you have been following along with the iContact campaign- the results are in!  After reviewing hundreds of fantastic applications and meeting with several top candidates, we have finally chosen a winner!

Tune in Friday to hear who we have selected to win the iContact Email Marketing Home Based Business!

Peter Mann is a former Dell Executive who left  due to a personal family trauma in which his asthmatic son had a near brush with death.  Passionate about finding a solution for his son as well as other children, Peter founded Oransi, a green home products company, in 2009 and has been in the air purification industry for over a decade.

As the CEO, Peter follows Jet Blue's employee telecommute model. Oransi favors employing stay-at-home Moms for all positions - allowing them to telecommute and make their own hours.

Peter believes this works especially well for his company - because he is able to keep office space overhead to a bare minimum and he has enthusiastic and happier employees who are able to achieve an excellent work/life balance.

Kate Lister is the principal researcher at the Telework Research Network whose research on the changing nature of work in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. has been cited in the Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, and dozens of other publications.

Their proprietary Telework Savings Calculator has been used by company and community leaders to quantify the benefits of remote work. Kate's third popular-press book, Undress For Success: The Naked Truth About Making Money at Home (John Wiley & Sons 2009), has won the praise of top telework and work-life advocates including principals with WorldatWork, the Canadian Telework Association, the Telework Coalition, and Jack Nilles--the father of telework.

Roz Kirby Walker is a wife, a savvy mom of two, and a born entrepreneur.  She is a dynamic combination of marketing strategist, brand consultant, and personal development coach.  In addition to being the Director of Marketing at OurMilkMoney.com, Roz is the Founder of RozKWalker.com The Savvy Mompreneur, a global, online business resource dedicated to helping moms discover how to turn their passions into an at-home career, build a powerful personal brand, attract ideal clients, and experience wild success in their business.  She is a licensed Coaching University facilitator, a trained Social Media Manager, and a member of the International Coaching Federation.

How to Be Your Very Own Motivator

You've listened to other inspirational stories. Now it's time to listen to your own.

We all have a story to tell, but hands down- your story is the best one there is. No matter where you are in your journey- there is an inspirational screenplay in the making with you playing the role of the protagonist, the hero and the champion. Don't quite see it?

There is tremendous value in living in the moment - in treasuring every trial and tribulation and having pride in your "war wounds".  We learn through struggle. We become stronger each time we fall down. We gain valuable insight by doing - much more than listening to others tell us how to do it.

For most of us, there isn't a lot that we aren't willing to do to achieve our ultimate success. Before we invest ourselves emotionally, financially and mentally however,  we want to know that there will be an ultimate pay off. We are cautious. We can't afford to waste our precious time on a business concept that might suck up our resources and leave us feeling depleted, burned and rejected. We have become so cautious that often we choose not to take the risk at all. No matter how trapped we feel in our less than desirable situations, we aren't always willing to leave the safety of our personal prisons.

Do more than learn about it. Live it.

This week I am going to show you how to use your innermost conflicts as a catalyst for your own personal success. No one can tell your story like you can. You may be surprised just how inspirational your story is. The more trauma and anguish....the better!

Join us this Friday when I give you a quick step by step tutorial on how to create your own inspirational story - complete with a destination so successful that it will have your audiences cheering to the very end. This is one story that will give you more drive and will power than anything else has given you up until now.

Our guest this week is Debra M. Cohen, Successful Mompreneur,  President of Home Remedies® of NY, Inc., and author of The Complete Guide To Owning And Operating A Successful Homeowner Referral Network©

Meet Debra Cohen!

DebraCohen2.jpg

In 1997, Debra Cohen left a successful eight-year career as VP of a global aviation magazine for a less glamorous pursuit - motherhood.  Over the next six months she developed a business plan that put her passions and talents to work and launched Home Remedies® Homeowner Referral Network (HRN) that pre-screens and refers local home improvement contractors.  In its first six months of operation, Home Remedies® was profitable and boasted a client list of over 100 satisfied homeowners throughout Nassau County, Long Island.

Soon, other entrepreneurs expressed an interest in launching HRN's in their communities and  Ms. Cohen wrote a business manual entitled The Complete Guide To Owning And Operating A Successful Homeowner Referral Network© which outlines her step-by-step operating plan.  She sells the HRN Business Manual along with HRN Business Packages worldwide to other prospective entrepreneurs looking for a viable home based business.  To date there are more than 300 HRN's operating globally and her business has grossed $4 million to date.

Ms. Cohen has appeared on Lifetime's New Attitudes, CBS News, CNNfn and ivillage Live! and in several publications including Good Housekeeping, Working Mother, Woman's Day, Entrepreneur and Remodeling magazines to name a few.

Parents in the Arts

They say art is a way of life...but can you live it?

There are people who have spent their lifetime making sacrifices for their art. Why not do the same for our children, our businesses and our ideal way of life?

The "struggling artist" very often gets a bad reputation for being poor, irresponsible, or unclear about what their priorities should be. But consider for a moment what we can learn from this generation's artist. Take away the desire to "make money" and replace it with the desire to "make art" and you'll see exactly how its possible to live beneath your means in a way that makes you happy and filled with joy on a daily basis.

Struggling to survive in a bad economy? Ask a stage actress who has been living in her own personal recession for her entire career. In massive business debt? Ask a theater company how they've managed to survive performing to only half-filled houses. Feeling empty or undernourished from being forced to live a more frugal lifestyle? Ask the poet how going for a walk in the rain can satisfy their soul for the rest of the week.

If the goal here is to spend more time with your family- if that is what simply makes your life worth living -then the artist just may be the ideal teacher for you.

Joining me this week is playwright, Rebekah L. Pierce, whose work focuses on contemporary women and the search for purpose and identity. READ MORE ABOUT REBEKAH HERE-->

It's Back to School Week! (How are you holding up there, Mom?)

We are Moms. It's our job to be emotional.

Let's take off our business hats and focus on the kids this week. Since we are our own bosses,  we can absolutely make that decision if we want to ...and commit to it....guilt free!  (Its one of the many perks to being self-employed).

Now that we've established that, lets get back to the kids. For many, its back to school week! Whether you send your kids to public school, private school, or home school- we have each chosen what we believe is the best method for educating our children and helping them to find their place in this world. As their caretakers we have made ourselves responsible in virtually everything: Language, manners, safety, resourcefulness, discipline, curiousity, creativity. Empathy. EVERYTHING. (I am exhausted just thinking about it!)

No matter what education system you have chosen for your child, it is important that we include the importance of taking risks. In each stage of life, infant to adult, its been proven time and time again that INTELLIGENCE does not always equal success, but CONFIDENCE IN SELF very often does equal success. Therefore, we'll be talking about the importance of growing through neccessary risk taking and encouarging your children to do the same.

This is a special week for me personally because my oldest is starting Kindergarten and my youngest is starting Preschool. Its been a very emotional and exciting time for my family. If you have a child who is starting a new school, or simply moving up to a new grade level, join me on Friday where we can congratulate (as well as commiserate with) each other on another parent job well done.

Joining us as guests this week are "MUSING MOMMIES" Kim Mills and Dawn Fry.

Kim Mills is a SAHM to a 6.75yr old daughter and a 4yr old son. She considers herself a bit of a Jack of All Trades! She enjoys photography, reading, audiobooks, crafty things, baking, podcasts, and is a TOTAL Twilighter (a huge fan of the Twilight Book Saga). Kim is a hairdresser by trade, but has experience in running a business, waitressing, dog grooming, and banking.

Kim was introduced to podcasts about a year ago by her husband and fell in love with them. She has a list of podcasts that she subscribes to and is always looking to add more.

Dawn Fry is also a SAHM to two rambunctious boys, a 6 year old and a 3 year old. She is the owner of Dawn Fry Photo, a portrait photography business. Dawn enjoys podcasting, blogging, photography, cooking and spending time with her family - not necessarily in that order!

She fancies herself a jack of all trades, and probably knows a little bit about most everything. In her brief work history (BC - before children) she worked as a music teacher, a cocktail waitress, hostess with the most-ess, a catering sales assistant, a financial planner's assistant, a model coach, professional photographer, health food store manager, event sales manager, wedding planner and a slew of other things that make her a master of, well...nothing!

When her first child was born, there was no question that her days of working 9 to 5 were over. Staying home with her kids and starting her photography business was the best decision she ever made.

Musing Mommies is a Podcast designed for moms by moms! Are you looking for a very informative show with experts in their fields giving advice?? Well that is not us! Oh yes we will give you info and some interviews but in our own way. We are two Texas moms talking about everything from poop diapers to world hunger. Get ready to laugh, cry and say to yourself "hey I feel that way too".

Meet Film and TV Celebrity Mom, Kaitlin Olson!

A Mom is a Mom is a Mom...

But my favorite kind of mom is one with a sense of humor. Which is why I am over the moon about having a good laugh with my dear friend, Kaitlin Olson on Friday's show.

You know her from her hit television comedy series, It's Always Sunny in Phillidelphia on FX, or from her recurring roles on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Meet the Marks, The Drew Carey Show, Miss Match and countless others.

Yep, she's a celebrity, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud to know her although not for the reason you might think. If there is one person who has stayed completely grounded despite her fame in Hollywoodland, Kaitlin is the girl.  Its not often you meet someone who has it all- beauty, brains, talent, and love. She's the full package... and she's not all that different from me and you. We are in for a real treat this week!

Get Ready to laugh. ALOT.

Born in a small town outside of Portland, Oregon, Kaitlin Olson cultivated her passion for acting at the University of Oregon, where she got her Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts. After her stint on stage, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting professionally. She began at The Groundlings Theatre in Hollywood, training ground to comic greats such as Will Ferrell and Phil Hartman. Kaitlin secured a coveted spot in The Groundlings Sunday Company, which proved to be an amazing showcase, leading to recurring roles on both "Curb Your Enthusiasm" (2000), where Kaitlin plays "Becky", Larry's sister-in-law, and "The Drew Carey Show" (1995), where she played "Traylor", Mimi's nemesis, for two seasons.

Olson also had the honor of joining Drew Carey and several cast members of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1998) on a USO tour, performing improv shows for US troops in Bosnia, Kosovo and Norway.

Soon after "The Drew Carey Show" (1995) ended, Olson was cast as a series regular on the Fox series "Kelsey Grammer Presents: The Sketch Show" (2005).

Previously, Olson has been a series regular on the Fox improv/hidden camera series "Meet the Marks" (2002) and recurred on "Punk'd" (2003) and "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment" (2002). She has also had notable guest starring roles on "Out of Practice" (2005) and "Miss Match" (2003), opposite Alicia Silverstone.

Olson currently stars as "Sweet Dee" on the FX breakout sitcom, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" (2005).

Say Goodbye to Competition and Hello to Collaboration!

There is power in numbers.

When I first created OurMilkMoney.com, it was because I had a dream to be able to stay home and take care of my family. I knew that I couldn't do it alone, and that there had to be others who had the same dream. My vision for OurMilkMoney.com was that it would be a collaborative organization - one that would serve a purpose for many others like me. The more parents I could get involved- the more we would accomplish for ourselves and our children. I had dreams of validation, purpose and impact. Nearly 4 years later, I still feel the energy from all of you. It’s feeding itself. We can see very clearly what we have already accomplished and how much more we will grow and succeed as a team.

Parents are a force to be reckoned with.

We share the same philosophy. In this virtual world of intra-personal communication, you must believe that there is a force that binds us all together. It's the love we have for our children. Because, let’s face it, none of us knew this kind of love until we became parents. It changed everything about who we are as people and what is ultimately important in our short time on this planet. No matter what your personal goals are for your family, what kind of house you want to live in, the monetary limit you’ve put on yourself to feel successful... we all have our children in common with one another. Not one of us will dispute that our families are worth the sacrifices we make every day. We use our lives of freedom to give quality time to our children...not on sick days or an allotted number of personal days. EVERYDAY. No one’s priorities are more important than yours and your family’s.

That is why Organizations like OurMilkMoney.com and LivingMyMoMent.com are aggressively adamant in showing the world the value of family owned and operated businesses. Joining us on Friday is Abbey Fatica, owner and president of Living Your Moment which she started in April 2009 as a way to market small businesses owned by moms and dads.

THIS WEEK'S GIVEAWAY:

EVERYONE who enters will receive a complementary 30 minute planning and collaborating session to discuss your goals for your business and how Living Your Moment can help you take it to the next level.

REGISTER NOW!-->

Also joining us this week is our Co-Host for the day, Daphne Mallory, Founder of YourBestJobNow.com and new Radio Host on Toginet!

Congratulations on being a part of something that matters and is shaping the world into something we can be proud to give our children! See you on Friday!

Living Your Moment was started in April 2009 when Abbey Fatica was trying to figure out a way to make some extra cash. She was a Stay at Home Mom to her daughter at the time and really wanted to contribute somehow to their income. After searching online for many months, trying to come up products to sell and not being able to find anything that spoke to me, she had an AHA MoMent!

While watching Oprah one day, Abbey was intrigued by the segment on MoM bloggers and although she had never really thought about Blogging as an profession, Heather Armstrong from Dooce.com changed her mind. Seeing how a mom just like herself could make a living out of blogging about her life then Abbey could do it, too!

On top of just blogging, Abbey wanted to offer some kind of service to family run business owners. Our country was in one of the worst recessions since the great depression and it's hard to keep small businesses afloat let alone pay a fortune to advertise. These types of businesses are usually hit the hardest when the economy is bad and she didn't want to see all of their efforts go to waste. So why not offer FREE ADVERTISING. And that's where we started!

Living Your Moment is ready to take your business to the next level. We know that moms who run small businesses are strapped for time and Living Your Moment will provide affordable marketing for your business by doing the busy work for you. We don't want to add to your already busy schedule. We want to give you the opportunity to be able to spend more time with your kids or perfecting your product.

Advertising and Marketing your business is a job within itself and that's exactly what Living Your Moment is committed to do for you. Promote your product to your target audience so that you can see your sales skyrocket through the roof!

Daphne Mallory has been working as a virtual professional for over 12 years. But she hasn't worked as attorney the entire time. In fact, she has held some of the best work at home jobs for moms, including freelance writing, virtual assistant and call agent.

There were many lucrative career options available to Daphne when she graduated from law school. She worked as a summer associate for a top law firm, clerked for a state Supreme Court justice, worked as a special prosecutor and is a graduate from an Ivy League and a top ranking law school. She has been profiled in Billboard Magazine, Essence and other trade publications and magazines for her work as an entertainment lawyer and business consultant.

So why go from earning $150 an hour working 90 plus hours a week to earning $10 to $20 per hour as a work at home employee? Family comes first.

Mallory is a mom to four children. Work at home jobs have provided her the lifestyle necessary to put her spouse and kids first, and that's worth more to her than any legal opportunity out there. The income has helped her family reduce debt and build a business on the side.

She is convinced that your best job is a work at home job if you're a mother. It's a legitimate and solid way to make money online without starting a business or selling things. Work at home jobs are also great for solving marital, debt and time management issues. They can also sustain you while you're trying to build a business on the side or transition from outside employment to working at home.

She sees herself now as a work at home jobs evangelist. She teaches moms how to really land these jobs and avoid scams through her website, book, videos, virtual bootcamp and the Your Best Job Now radio show.

I am not a Bully, I am just a Mom.

If you know a child bully, look closer at where they maybe learning their behavior.

The apple never falls far from the tree, which is why moms and kids alike are tormented. It's bad enough that kids bully other kids. But look out for another rascal on the playground. Do you know her?

THE BULLY MOM aka The Monster in The Minivan.

Either you've seen her terrorize others, or she's come after you personally. She's always got a juicy rumor to share about another mom, or worse: a child. She's the one who made you feel bad because you couldn't breast-feed.... or labeled you the "boob Nazi" because you dared to nurse in public. You may have a regular group of moms in your play-date, but she's always "forgetting" to invite certain women.

Or is it more than 1 mom? Perhaps an entire group of culprits are making you sweat each time you see them. Bullies tend to flock together, excluding the new mom on the playground, or flat out ignoring the mom who just moved into the area hoping to make some new friends and simply "fit in."

While women are capable of such strong friendships and acceptance, they are just as capable of being downright MEAN.

As Little Parents who Stay Home and Parents of The Our Milk Money Organization, we've accomplished A LOT together. We've rallied and united, forming a nationwide movement of parents who have vowed to support one-another in our choice to work from home. Now its time to come together for a new cause: The Anti-Bully Campaign. Live and Let Live. Support each other and THRIVE!

Now I KNOW that none of you are tyrants, (right?!?)... But I do know that you are powerful parents who care to make a difference for yourselves and for your children. We all want to live bully-free. Therefore, I am calling upon you to join us this Friday where I have invited 2 incredible women to talk about how we can stop the bullying altogether and contribute to a more peaceful playground and contented community.

Please welcome a wonderfully giving, supportive and hard-working member of Our Milk Money, Stacy McGuigan. I've invited her to join me on Friday's Anti-Bully show as a Co-Host because she is a terrific example of how we can use our passions for good, and how the decision to support others can move mountains! If more people were like Stacy, the world would be a better place. READ MORE ABOUT STACY MCGUIGAN HERE-->

Empower Yourself and You'll Empower the World

Moms are great with scheduling in time for everyone else.

How about a little "YOU" time? Worried it might take away from the time you've scheduled to save the world?

You are not alone.

As moms we are often driven to pursue definitions of what a good mother looks like to the point that we completely lose ourselves in the process.

I am inviting Patty Lennon back to the show this week because she is a lot like you. She is a mom who thrives on making an impact on the world, connecting with other women, and giving herself the life she's always wanted. Patty will be joining us this Friday to talk to us about creating a virtual home for Moms like you who are ready to move up on the priority list - by designing a life that honors you as an individual.

If you are ready to fall as deeply in love with your life as you are with your children, this is the show for you!

In addition, Patty will be sharing with us some great knowledge about Micro-Lending through Kiva.org and how to give back to the world, simply by empowering yourself. Two Birds, one stone.

THIS WEEK'S GIVEAWAYS:

A complimentary 6 month membership to Mom Gets A Life  ($145 value)

PLUS

Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals and teams lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.

Why We Chose Kiva.org

We believe that the financial independence of mothers in impoverished nations has the power to combat terrorism in a way that war cannot.

The reason is simple:

When a mother has financial independence she has the power to hope and dream. And when a mother hopes and dreams it is easier for a child to see all the future possibilities that are available to that child. And when a child is raised with hopes and dreams and sees possibilities terrorism is no longer that child's best option.

Outsell Yourself with Ethical Business and Sales Techniques

This generation of small business owners has a new selling style.

Its called "recession selling" and it refers to the way consumers have responded to the unsteadiness in the economy.  What kind of seller are you? Does it match the way you think as a consumer? Do you upsell yourself on a product or service with lots of options or do you pass on the extras simply because times appear to be tough, and instead purchase a new product only out of sheer need?

Join me this week when I introduce you to our guest,  Kelly McCormick, author of the new book, OutSell Yourself: Go from Hello to Sold with Ethical Business & Sales Techniques.
Kelly_McCormickOutSellYourselfwebphoto.jpg

Kelly McCormick is a business expert with OutSell Yourself®, a division of her company The McCormick Team, Inc. Kelly doesn't just talk the talk - she walks the walk. She's owned three successful businesses - the first at age 21. Starting each of her companies from the ground up left Kelly with a deep understanding of human mindsets and what it takes to build a brand, market, and sell.

For almost two decades, as a speaker, writer, coach, and consultant, Kelly has been sharing her methods on how to do business in a way that instantly connects sellers with buyers. Her clients include entrepreneurs, consultants, businesses, multi-national corporations, award winning franchises, retailers, colleges, associations and others.

Kelly is the author of OutSell Yourself®: Go from Hello to Sold with Ethical Business and Sales Techniques! FedEx cofounder, Frank Maguire, said this about Kelly and her book,

"Mr. Morita, the founder of Sony, once told me that ‘customer' connotes a relationship built on trust over a long period of time. Kelly shows us the way to grow a customer base for the future. Take advantage of her wisdom."

Kelly writes articles on business and sales building topics for industry trade magazines and blogs. For over two years, she wrote a monthly on-line column, Gender Bender, on selling to women and to men, for Sales and Marketing Management magazine, the former publication of The Neilson Group. Kelly is a Past President of the Toronto Chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers, and a member of the National Speakers Association.

Also joining me this week as a co-host is Wokie Nwabueze, who will soon be a fellow host with me here on Toginet with her new show Stop Fighting! Make Peace at Home.

As the mother of two very young
children, she has experienced firsthand the conflict that we all face as we nurture our closest relationships.

Wokie believes that at the core of every conflict is an unmet need and that the skill it takes to resolve conflict well is not something we are taught. But it is the most
important work we can do for our families and relationships. That belief is the reason she is so passionate about Stop fighting! Make Peace at Home.

How to Use Your Astrological Chart to Identify Your Greatest Gifts

The best way to predict the future it to create it ourselves...but it couldn't hurt to have a hint or two about which path we should take...

If you are like me, hard work comes fast- but slow results make you batty. Often, I have found myself shaking my head to the universe begging for a sign that my persistence and perseverance will result in some sort of pay off. Ever feel that way? Am I on the right path? Should I try going down that path instead? What am I missing?

In passed shows we have talked about how we can cut out 80% of our competition just by outlasting everyone else. A shocking 90% of first time home-based businesses fail in the first year because of the inclination to throw in the towel a little too early.

It wasn't too long ago I ran into my friend, Heidi Rose Robbins- a gifted astrologer and empowering group leader for women. She must have sensed my restlessness because she intuitively offered me a "hint" into my future- the very prophecy that I had been aching for: "You are on the right path, and very soon, you will begin to see results from all of your hard work."

It was all I needed to march on.

This week, I am thrilled to be able to share my very good friend, Heidi Rose Robbins - in a show that will open your eyes by giving you the clarity and focus you need to take action and keep it going.

Heidi has so generously offered to give complimentary astrology readings on the air this Friday. If you would like to participate, be one of the first 3 people to respond to this message and you'll be invited to join us live on the air for your personal astrological forecast!

This Week's Giveaway:

A one hour MP3 about your Sun Sign. Heidi goes into great depth about each zodiacal sign -- the gifts and challenges inherent in each by using poetry and a ton of great astrological information to help you live a more radiant life.

GET YOUR FREE GIFT NOW!-->

Heidi Rose Robbins has been an astrologer for over 15 years. In fact, she grew up learning the zodiac with her alphabet. She has a practical, sensitive (and inspiring) approach to astrology and has a thriving world-wide practice. She also offers powerful, transformative retreats for women twice a year in Ojai, California. It is her passion and commitment to speak of the depth of who we are and to grow into the next outrageous blossoming of our true selves.

How to Generate and Retain Your Own Momentum

For many of us, success is merely just A CHOICE to execute a tactical plan that will create your desired results. What is so complicated about that? I'll tell you what is complicated: We are. We have too many worries, fears, complaints, stresses and B.A.G.G.A.G.E! These problems cloud our visions and distract us from our focus in a vicious cycle that confuses our intelligence.

This week I'll be drawing your attention to your subconscious mindset, and whether it is working for you or against you. How open are you to altering your belief system? If you want to learn to expect more from yourself, a shift in mindset is almost always the magic ingredient.  Together we will create your unique victory story!

If you would like to participate in Open Coaching Day on Friday, call 877-864-4869 during the show or if you are unable to listen live, but would like to have a question read on the air please fill out this form. We will try and address as many issues as we can in the 1 hour time frame of the show.

Whatever challenges you are having ...BRING IT ON.

How to Raise Your Kids to Have an Entrepreneurial Mindset

These kids went from ABC to CEO.

Have we been so consumed with our own home-based businesses that will allow us to take care of our kids, that we might have overlooked the notion of raising them to take care of themselves? We can play a large role in the kind of future our children have by exposing them to our own careers and engaging them in the freedoms that comes along with being financially independent.

As an added bonus, if you are in need of some help funding your family's active lifestyle, perhaps you don't need to look past the little tenants residing in your home. Putting your tween on your payroll will not only provide you with outstanding tax benefits, it will also encourage their entrepreneurial spirit and teach them valuable financial lessons along the way.

I've invited back my good friend, Sarah L. Cook - owner of Raising CEO Kids to Co-Host with me this week.

Sarah Cook, CEO of Raising CEO Kids knows first-hand what it is like to grown up in an entrepreneurial home and the benefits that it can bring to kids.  Sarah’s father owned his own successful computer programming business as did her grandfather.  Their example left a huge impact on Sarah who received her BA in Family Studies from Utah State University and has owned her own successful national-wide direct sales skin care business for nearly 16 years.  In the last three years Sarah has worked diligently with her own three children to help bring their business ideas to life.  Now she wants to share what she has learned with CEO Kids and their parents from around the world.

Together we will be interviewing some of the most inspirational kiddos this generations has ever known. I am so excited to introduce you to these young entrepreneurs!

Meet our four young superstars:

LexxiSaal-300x283.jpgLexxi Saal founded Lexxiloves.Org when she was eight years old. Her foundation provides love and compassion to the children in foster care.

Lexxi hopes to build several LexxiLoves.Org houses to support the transition process for  some of the 20,000 children who age out every year.

Lexxi is a singer songwriter and wrote an original song "Thank You" as her Tribute to the men and women in our military who make endless sacrifices to keep us safe. An active member of the Association for Conflict Reso

"Private Eye Mom" Adrienne Kallweit founded SeekingSitters in 2004 after struggling with her own child care needs. She was running her Private Investigation Firm and wanted to hire her son's preschool teacher. She ran the teacher's background investigation and was shocked at what she found: a variety of charges that raised questions about the teacher's character. Yet, the teacher was still working at a public school. That's when Adrienne started "seeking out her own sitters" that passed her stringent background checks and could work around her unpredictable schedule.

She saw a greater need - not just in her hometown - but nationwide. On family trips to Denver, Colorado and Austin, Texas they faced the same dilemma: they couldn't find a good sitter they could trust. So on a 7 hour drive from Austin back to Tulsa, she and her husband wrote their business plan and launched their website that night and SeekingSitters was born.

Since their first babysitting job in 2004, SeekingSitters has grown to over 8000 babysitting jobs monthly servicing hundreds of cities in 23 states.  SeekingSitters continues the safe sitting community by processing all background screenings on members and sitters of SeekingSitters through an in-house background investigation company. Adrienne and David are committed to making sure that childcare is offered in a safe and reliable method in all 50 states. They have built the business without debt, funding their business as they grew.

SeekingSitters was named to Inc. Magazine’s list of 500 fastest growing private companies in 2010 and Entrepreneur Magazine’s top 500 franchises in America: among the top low-cost franchises, SeekingSitters ranks number 66 out of 500 and top new businesses ranking number 19.  The company was also the winner of Tulsa’s First Annual Entrepreneurial Spirit Award in November 2007 and was named one of the “25 Best Women-Owned Businesses” by Working Mother Magazine in 2008.  SeekingSitters has been featured on Fox & Friends, CNN and CNN Headline News, CBS Early Show, in Entrepreneur Magazine and on the CNBC Show “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch.” For more information, please visit www.seekingsitters.com.

Adrienne also makes it a priority to give back and serves as a volunteer on many comminutes including local fundraisers and the Tulsa Chamber Board.  SeekingSitters donates to many local and national organizations such as the big brothers and big sisters organization and franchisees across the national also support their local community.

Wouldn't it be nice to talk with other grown-ups... like a grown-up?

Break out of the kid talk and find your grown-up voice.

You might be an ideal employee, or a rock star business owner. You may be creative, innovative, organized and skilled, but there is no way around it. If you are going to venture into business for yourself, you are going to have to talk to other people.

If you are shy, lack confidence in your communication skills, or seem to have forgotten how to speak "grown-up" since becoming a mom, then this is the show for you! Lets brush up on those conversation skills and get comfortable talking again.

This week I am bringing on a dynamic guest,  Robyn Hatcher, the founder of SpeakEtc., a communication and presentation-skills training and coaching company that helps clients develop presence through communication. We'll also talk about how to polish the non-verbal elements of communication – body language, gestures, vocal quality and unlike many other presentation coaches Robyn works equally on the verbal skills– word choice, content and organization so that clients become more powerful and engaging communicators. Her unique approach identifies and works with client’s strengths, core values, and passion.

Robyn will be giving away 20 complimentry coaching sessions!  You must listen to the show to find out how to be one of the first 20 chosen!

Robyn Hatcher is owner of SpeakEtc., a presentation and communication skills training company which provides group and one on one coaching to individuals, corporations and organizations. The Business of Being YOU

Being you. Nobody can do it better.

Oh sure, you might think you'd be better in business if you were someone else. With someone else's education, someone else's money, or someone else's connections. But that is not necessarily true. You are right where you are today because you are ...you.

Learning to embrace our best attributes (and forgiving some of our worst) allows us to be fully present in our business experiences, offers us more authentic relationships and stops the dreaded "If I was someone else..." head trip that can sabotage our success.

There is no one better to help us with this lesson than the amazing Jess Weiner. A friend and colleague, Jess is dynamic at giving us the gift of loving ourselves.

Strength of Purpose in Your Role as a Leader - With Special Guest, Susan Lyne

Don't let your visions of success frighten you.

As parents and business leaders, we are also visionaries... and that can be overwhelming for those of us balancing a full schedule of family, home and business. Making room for our own sense of purpose can feel irrepressible and disorganized...until we see an example of someone who has already achieved the kind of success we'd like for ourselves.

Last week, we talked about surrounding ourselves with positive people and how that can create a clear path to victory. This week I'd like to talk about adopting behaviors and philosophies of those we admire and look up to.

For this very in depth look at ourselves as front runners in our own ambitions, I am bringing on a woman who I have admired for years, Susan Lyne.

When I first met Susan, I'd just about had it with corporate jobs, the temping pool and narrow-minded bosses. I might have completely lost my faith in the American workplace as well as in my own ability to deliver adequately as an employee. I had been knocked down too many times for instinctively wanting to streamline and push boundaries, and was nearly convinced that it was not possible to satisfy any employer, let alone my own career aspirations...which were becoming more and more unclear to me.  I needed a role model. Someone to look up to who would show me that it is possible to lead a dynamic team without sacrficing integrity, and one that would transform my outlook to a more positive one.

At the time Susan was the President of The ABC Television Network, and my temp agency assigned me to answer her phones for a half a day - which turned into 7 fantastic months working for a woman I grew to admire, aimed to be like, and would eventually turn to as a cherished mentor.

In that 7 months I learned how a great leader leads, the inter-workings of the entertainment Industry, conversed on a daily basis with Hollywood celebrities, television executives and creatives, and best of all -  it was the beginning of my growth into a new version of my best self.  It was the beginning of my new career as a free thinker, visionary and eventual leader, myself. Thanks to Susan, I began to believe in what I could contribute to my own life as well as with others.

This week, I am beyond thrilled to be interviewing my role model, Susan Lyne - an empowering leader, a dynamic media guru, and terrific mother and wife. Currently Susan holds the position of CEO at The Gilt Group.

100_lyne.jpg

Susan Lyne serves as Chairman of Gilt Groupe. Susan joined the company as Chief Executive Officer in September 2008, less than a year after Gilt's launch as a women's apparel and accessories business.

Today the company has over three million members, 500 employees and operates six distinct business lines in the US, as well as the leading flash sale site in Japan. Lyne assumed the role of Chairman in September 2010.

From November 2004 to July 2008, Ms Lyne was President and CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO). In that capacity, she steered the company's recovery and return to profitability, led by a three-fold increase in advertising revenue and the diversification of its merchandising business.

Before joining MSLO, Susan spent eight years at Disney/ABC, rising to President of ABC Entertainment where she oversaw the development of shows such as Desperate Housewives, Lost, and Grey's Anatomy. Prior to that she ran the network's long-form division, fielding a schedule of original movies and miniseries that won time periods and earned numerous awards.

Ms Lyne's early career was spent in the magazine industry. She was managing editor of New Times and later of The Village Voice and, in 1987, created and launched Premiere magazine for News Corp.

Ms. Lyne serves on the board of AOL and is a trustee of The New School. She lives in New York City.

Show # 56: Franchising and Flourishing

If you are looking for freedom without the guess work, purchasing a franchise might be a perfect option for you.

You want to be your own boss, but the thought of being a CEO might make you shutter. I am not going to convince you otherwise. If there is one thing I have learned from my coaching clients and even some of the callers on the show, its that some people just don’t want to go it alone, and who could blame them? Its life-changing enough when you discover all the added responsibility that goes a long with becoming a new parent.  Why would anyone willingly take on the accountability for an entire company? No, thanks. Just sign me up to do some work for someone and give me a paycheck for my time.
If only it were that easy.
Contrary to the way it may seem there is a middle ground and owning a franchise may be a viable option. If you are like most people you probably don't give yourself enough credit. You may be scratching your head in the same spot wondering if you are good at anything. You might assume that because you’ve never been your own boss that you still need a boss to tell you what to do. If the thought of truly being your own boss gives you more of an upset stomach than changing your situation, no matter how miserable it may be, then consider purchasing a franchise.

Ask yourself these questions: Are you looking for something that is uniquely yours? Or do you simply want to run the show, regardless if it's by someone else's rules?

The biggest advantage of owning a franchise is the reduction of risk you will be taking for your investment. This is because franchises typically get up and running faster, and are profitable more quickly. This is the result of an already proven management system as well as an already established name. Add the flexibility of the fact that you are still the boss with a product or service you can be passionate about as a parent, and it may just be the answer you've been looking for.

Joining me this week to talk about franchising is the lovely and talented Shannon Wilburn, President and Co-Founder of The Just Between Friends Franchise System. With over 100 franchises in more than 20 states (26 of them can be found on OurMilkMoney.com!), Shannon will be talking about the JBF concept: How JBF saves families 50-90% and helps families make 65-70% on selling their own children's and maternity items. READ MORE ABOUT SHANNON  NOW --->

In addition to franchising, we'll be revealing 4 top notch and underground universal rules among the nations flourishing self-employed parents.

What Are these New Rules?
On Friday we will uncover the innovative underground world filled with flourishing self-employed parents who once felt like they were on the outside looking in, but not any longer.

What is their secret to success? Its simple. They follow the rules.

Parents across the country have already discovered that survival is not only possible, it’s unavoidable. By simply understanding the operating principles shared by others before them, you too will see how to flourish.  Tune in to learn these 5 simple rules that will nearly guarantee your success as a "career parent" and make your "double careers" a whole lot easier!

Shannon Wilburn is many things: An identical twin, wife of 20 years to an amazing man and mom to two wonderful teenagers. She is also the Co-Founder and President of Just Between Friends Franchise Systems, Inc,  the nation’s leading children’s and maternity consignment sales event.  JBF has grown from one location in Tulsa, Oklahoma to over 100 franchises in more than 20 states.
In addition to receiving her joy from being a mom and a wife, her hobbies include working out, traveling, reading, worshipping, marketing her business, spending time with her family and friends as well as being a continual learner both in business and in spiritual matters.

Selling is Not a Dirty Word

Julie Steelman generated over $100 million in sales, left corporate America and retired at a young age to live in Hawaii with her husband.

Isn't it time to turn your dream into reality?

If you are like me, you hate the idea of selling, no matter what it is.... your products, someone else's products, your services, someone else's services...

The very thought of asking someone for money might bring about nausea...and you are not alone.  Then again, you work hard and you are as ready as ever to maximize your profits and boost your bank account balance.

Torn much?

Its time for us to have the "How to Sell" conversation, and there is no one better to help me with this topic than Julie Steelman.

Most entrepreneurs trip over the cash-generating functions of their business because there are so many misperceptions about selling.  That means most of us are leaving precious dollars on the table and forfeiting our right to live abundantly.

The truth is, when your mind-set, heart-set and skill-set are aligned properly, you become instantly bankable. You easily magnetize your ideal customers and have the soul-satisfying business you always dreamed of.

Everyone (including you) has their own natural selling and money-making style.  It’s just that you haven’t known how to access it or how to use it to win business graciously.

I am thrilled to be having Julie join me on the show Friday, where she has promised to share her money making secrets with us. READ MORE ABOUT JULIE NOW --->

Julie Steelman is an author, a speaker, a selling mentor and a bankability guru. Her credits read like a Who’s Who of big-name corporate giants with Apple, Microsoft, Toyota, CBS, Sony Studios and Universal Pictures in her rolodex.  She has generated over $100+ million in sales during her 30 year sales career. Julie is known as The Entrepreneur’s Selling Mentor.

Her heart-centered selling strategies make her the go-to guru for entrepreneurial business owners who want to master the art of selling and maximize their bankability. While selling with sincerity may not be the norm in Corporate America, it’s standard practice for this maverick.

Recognizing that the selling relationship starts with understanding a buyer’s pain points, Julie earned a Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica in 2001.  Julie’s heart-led approach to selling transformed her clients’ businesses.

In one instance, she unlocked a two-year stalemate between a major movie studio and a popular search engine, closing a two-year, $3,500,000 deal.  In another example, she turned an apology meeting, with one of the worlds biggest brands, into a long-term multi-million dollar deal leaving with the first $1,000,000 in hand.

Now retired to her personal paradise in Hawaii, living debt-free, Julie developed the easy-to-master “Effortless YES! Selling System”™. She spends her time helping business owners overcome their aversion to selling in an honest, transformational and interactive style. Her ability to see the possibility for life-long prosperity in her client’s businesses, has made her the highly sought after expert in her field.

Julie developed her own brand of selling by combining her vast sales expertise with her deep understanding of buyer psychology and seasoned it with street smarts. She returned to the entrepreneurial business arena to teach these powerful principles to entrepreneurs interested in getting the sales they want and m

Chris Hogan, Director of Wealth Coach Program The Dave Ramsey Show

Chris Hogan might have been the most unlikely person to wind up working as a financial speaker. Why? Years ago, Chris was an All-American college football player who pushed future NFL players all over the field—far removed from the world of helping others find Financial Peace.

For Chris, the path from football to where he is today was a long, but meaningful, journey. While he was a vice president of a well-respected company, helping clients manage all phases of their businesses, he realized how so many families, marriages and children were being affected by money issues. He felt powerless as he sat behind his desk and watched his clients throw away their financial futures. Chris knew things needed to change.

That’s when he met Dave Ramsey, and his career found a new direction. Today, he helps spread Dave’s message of financial hope to audiences everywhere. An engaging and humorous speaker, Chris is an expert on subjects like mortgages, healthcare and investing. To promote financial education, he speaks at colleges and businesses, and conducts on-site training sessions at companies. Chris also works with high-profile clients, such as athletes, entertainers and businessmen, to help them develop a financial strategy to protect their wealth and secure their future.

Chris has had insurance licensure and banking certifications in three states. He holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown College and a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania. Chris lives with his wife, Melissa, and their three sons in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Topics

  • Money: Management, Investing & Everything In Between
  • Mortgages, Insurance & Large Life Purchases
  • Wealth: Growth, Management & Giving
  • Life Coaching
  • Personal & Professional Development
  • Business Growth & Development

Chris oversees The Lampo Group, Inc. Wealth Management Services. He is also a Senior Financial Counselor and Director of The Lampo Group, Inc. Wealth Coach Program. His primary focus is helping his clients develop an appropriate and comprehensive financial strategy and then working directly with those clients to help them monitor and evaluate the strategy in light of their goals and needs. Mr. Hogan also works closely with other members of the Lampo team and other professionals to provide a select group of his clients with comprehensive wealth management services including budgeting, future planning and preparation, estate planning, retirement planning and risk management strategies.

How to Become Receptive to Change

Friday's show is significant for many reasons.

It marks our 40th live show together. Its my birthday episode. It will be our last show together before we head into 2011.

As we round up this year and spend the next couple of weeks shopping, celebrating, indulging  and gearing up for our new years resolutions, I thought it would be a good idea to spend our last show of the year together in reflection and commemoration.

HEY! WHO MOVED MY CHEESE?

You may already know the story about the mice so appropriately named Sniff and Scurry, and their "little people" friends, Hem and Haw. If not, you are in for a real treat. Who Moved My Cheese was a book written by author Spencer Johnson more than 10 years ago, which inspired a following that remains thriving today. The story of Sniff, Scurry, Hem and Haw is a simple parable about the world we live in, the natural progression of the planet's need to change and what happens when we are resistant and unwilling to evolve with the rest of nature.

I love sharing these insights with you! Let this be my gift to you as we head into the most celebrated time of year.

As an added bonus, I'll be bringing on special guest, Jaime Tardy,  a debt free  entrepreneurial business coach from The EventualMillionare.com, who gave up her 6 figure income to stay home with her children and become her own boss.

The phone lines will be open for live listeners! Call 877-864-4869 or if you are unable to listen live, but would like us to address something on the air please fill out this form.

I am looking forward to being innovative with you!

About our Guest

Jaime_red_small.jpgJaime Tardy was making 6 figures by the time she was 22 years old. Now she is a business coach educating others in the world of personal finance, with a focus on entrepreneurs and their strengths to create an amazing life while they build their net worth.

What is an Eventual Millionaire?

An Eventual Millionaire is a person who knows they will be a millionaire, eventually. But they are dedicated to becoming a millionaire on their own terms. They want an enjoyable business and an enjoyable life. With inflation it seems like we will all need to be a millionaire to retire with dignity.

Jaime tells us it’s OK to love money. (She loves her washing machine too). It’s OK to love a tool that makes your life easier. What is not OK is putting it above other priorities, like family, health and work you love. Jaime shows us how to put money back in it’s place. Where people control money and money doesn’t control people.

Giving and Receiving

Some people are just naturally talented at giving and receiving. The rest of us could stand for a little tutorial.

Knowing how to give as well as knowing how to receive are 2 equally important skills to have, especially this time of year. I've recently come into some new revelations that have helped me see the holidays for exactly what they should be: A time to appreciate your loved ones and share quality time together.

Are you gagging yet?

If you are, Friday's show IS NOT for you, I'm warning you. Its going to be a feel good, tear jerking, ooey gooey, warm and fuzzy, overly sugary, live radio event that will make you want to call up any estranged relatives or long lost friends to tell them what they have meant to you. Get ready to feel like an emotional pregnant woman who cries at M&M commercials and wants to hug everybody.

I'll be bringing on 3 women who are total heroes in my eyes.

You may remember my dear friend, Shannon Penrod of Every Day Autism Miracles. She will be giving amazing advice to a mom who wrote to me asking for support in her very challenging situation. We are going to work together to help this very brave mom looking to give her family the very best.

In addition, I will also be bringing on 2 of my dear friends and fellow neighbors, Jennifer Samuelson and Andi Wilson who recently discovered a homeless family and helped them to get fed, clothed, sheltered, and connected with distant relatives who would take them in. It's an amazing story- and literally only a few weeks old!

Its knowing women as brave as this, with their selfless and heroic deeds that make me want to choose to give more often and for nothing in return. If you have a heroic, feel-good story, please feel free to call in and share it with us!

Call 877-864-4869 or if you are unable to listen live, but would like us to address something on the air please fill out this form.

It's holiday time! (as if we need an excuse...ahem) Open up that bottle of wine and share an hour with us. See you Friday!

Moments of Clarity: How to Get Exactly What You Want

This Week's Topic is:

Moments of Clarity: How to Get Exactly What You Want

There is really no telling which event is going to have the largest impact on who we are or how it affects the way we choose to lead our lives...

Have you ever experienced something that has truly altered your core beliefs and became the one thing that lead you into your greatest self?
Its inevitable that at some point in our existence there will be a life changing event for all of us. Perhaps it will be a near death experience or even the loss of a loved one. These events force us to confront our current behaviors, re-examine the consequences of  our perpetual lifestyles and re-map our life's purpose, or perhaps its just that these moments are the ones that define us and give us the purpose we've been searching for. Depending on the nature of these moments and how you perceive them, even the most tragic events will later transpire as blessings in disguise and precious life lessons.

How do you weather the storms in your life? Are you able to recognize the miracles that emerge out of the moments least likely? Would you be more willing to trek through the tempest if you knew the reward at the end of it would be abundant and plentiful?

It is discussions like these that help us to realize what we are truly capable of and what is required for us to achieve all that we have ever wanted.

Join me in welcoming Friday's guests to the show, Kim Upstone. A member of Our Milk Money, she is the author of A NEW DAY A NEW VISION, and she has recently published a new book called, All I Want is Everything.

Help! I can’t do this by myself!

This Week’s Topic is:

The Power of Positive Perspective

(and how to get help when you need it!)

If you have ever felt like you can’t keep up with the chaos in your life and you just don’t know where to turn… help is on the way.

You already know how I feel about the super mom syndrome. I beg you not to get caught up in trying to do more than you can, lest you get sent to the nuthouse as I once was.

But the REAL issue isn’t always about being a trooper. Many stay-at-home moms and dads are simply at their wits end with all they have on their plate and the biggest challenge is where to turn when they are in need a helping hand. Why is it so difficult to get a little support nowadays? This week I am going to start off the show with some tips and tricks on how to get the help you need for either minimal or no cost, where to find it, and even how to get those adorable kids of yours to pitch in now and again. Yes, even the 3 year old can do her part.

I just adore this week’s guest and I just know you will as well. 24 year old Entrepreneur and Business Inspiration, Ms Samantha Davis of Sammy Davis Vintage will be joining us to spread her feel good mission and inspire us to keep our positive perspective especially as it relates to self-struggles, self-doubt and self-criticism. When I first began my journey with Our Milk Money, Sammy was one of my biggest supporters (and a terrific mentor!). At the time she was only 21 and just about to graduate college, but she taught me the importance of self love and self trust in my visions for the future. Sammy is a terrific and shining example of how to keep going even at the worst of times and she’ll be diving into her own experiences on Friday. These are the greatest stories to be told and I just had to have Sammy come on TLPSH to share her empowering narrative of all that she overcame to reach her success. These are the chapters for our books, my friends!

If we have time, I may even take some coaching calls. So, if you are a friend in need of some advice,  have that question ready to go!

As always, phone lines are open to you for questions or even just to get involved in the discussion. Call 877-864-4869 or if you are unable to listen live, but would like us to address something on the air please fill out this form.

Make sure to have those wine glasses ready to celebrate and toast with me!  More than 200 new members have joined the OurMilkMoney.com parent business directory in the last week! This movement ROCKS!

Working Virtually on Virtually Anything!

This week we are going to be focusing on the Virtual Assistant trend.  We'll be talking about the basic premise of virtual positions available in todays career world, and realistic expections about the role itself.

I am really excited to be able to bring you the details of a real opportunity to become a virtual assistant, as well as the opportunity to become a franchise owner of a virtual assistant business. Please join me in welcoming Patrica Beckman, the founder and CEO of Cybertary.com to the show on Friday. I'll have a ton of questions, and I am sure you will as well. Don't hold back if you want to know something!

About our Guest

Patricia.jpg

Founder of Cybertary.com, Patricia Beckman spent nearly twenty years in diverse office and financial management environments. Working in the corporate world provided Patricia with the training and experience in all of the latest applications and technology solutions.

In her last several years in the corporate world, Patricia juggled a heavy workload and business travels with growing family responsibilities of raising two small children with her husband Doug, who also had a demanding career. She felt strongly that there had to be an easier way to "do it all"; a way to nurture and enjoy a thriving career AND be there for her family.

During those often-hectic years, Patricia decided to design a way for highly skilled executive administrative workers to earn a professional wage while maintaining work/life balance. She wanted such a business model in her own life but also wished to make it available for many parents, caregivers and others who were having the same struggles balancing the important aspects of life and work. As a result, Mrs. Beckman founded Cybertary, thus fulfilling her personal mission to provide opportunities for career-minded professionals to leave the corporate world while enjoying the flexibility of working at home and building their own business.

How to Survive (and Perhaps Thrive) on a Teacher’s Salary

Wouldn’t it be great if a family of 4 could survive on a single salary like the old days?

According to Danny Kofke, its still incredibly possible.  When Danny first requested an appearance on This Little Parent Stayed Home, I didn’t expect I’d become so excited. Although I do take several moments to consider all requests, many of them are not neccessarily worthy of our time- or more specifically YOUR time.

Danny had my attention from the beginning. I believe what he has to share just might make an enormous difference in some of your lives.

He sent me his book How To Survive (and perhaps thrive) On A Teacher’s Salary which clearly laid out in simple terms how hard-working parents can live a wealthy lifestyle despite earning a modest income.

This brings up another important point of choosing the appropriate career for yourself.

PASSION.

A teacher is the lowest paying college degree required profession in the country, which pretty much guarantees that no one chooses to become a teacher for the salary. However, when you are in love with your profession of choice, its not the money that drives you, its the feeling that you are making a difference.

DO YOU KNOW THAT FEELING?

If not, it is crucial that you make that your next goal. We’ll be discussing it on Friday’s show.

Money is cyclical and hollow. Unless you have a direct purpose for it, all the money in the world won’t buy you the motivation to do what you love most. When you are driven by an enthusiasm that comes from deep within and inspires you to make your mark on the world simply by being your best self, it stops being about the money. Aha! And yet that is exactly when we become determined to make enough to survive. It’s what all successful people have in common: a passion for their chosen careers.

Whether your passion is to teach, act, or stay home with your kids, encompassing unfeigned joy in your chosen feild is the only way to determined your truest prosperity.

Please join me in welcoming Danny Kofke to the show, and call 877-864-4869 if you have anything specific you’d like to contribute to the discussion! If you are unable to listen live, but would like us to address something on the air please fill out this form!

Bartering and Marketing: 2 very often under-utilized tools

What if I told you that you could double or even triple the value of what you have in your bank account right now?

You'd would probably think I was selling you something, and I wouldn't blame you for assuming that. The very sentence REEKS of scam.

No. I am not selling you anything. (Just my show. And that doesn't cost you a thing.)

If you are still waiting to take that leap of faith, and the one thing that is holding you back is the big gaping hole that would be left in your budget where your salary used to be, then this will be the most important show for you, yet.

We are going to jump into a very rewarding and effective topic on Friday that I guarantee will result in your own bright light bulb filled with new possibilities..

I've been dangling this topic in front of you for awhile...

The ART of BARTERING

And by the way, that is the simple answer to how you can increase the value in your bank account. I am guessing that what you already know about bartering doesn't get you nearly as excited as it should. The complicated answer is really not that complicated at all, but you have to tune in to truly understand the big mystery. Learning how to barter effectively just might be the most important skill you need to be able to survive at home without that steady paycheck you are so reliant on.  It's a brilliant little concept that only a shocking few are putting to good use, and among us we can all pretty much agree that we probably would not have survived without it.

Anybody can do it...yes, even you.  You don't even have to wait until you are a business owner, and you don't need to learn a new skill. You already have everything you need! This will be just the beginning of our exploration of the subject. We've got lots to cover!

We'll be diving into some terrific marketing tips for the small business owner, with some expert advice by Lucinda Cross of Corporate Mom Drop Outs

Also joining me on Friday will be my "co-host for a day," Dani Walker, a new Toginet Radio Personality launching her show Come Learn With Me which will be about health and wellness and will premier in November. Let's welcome Dani to the network with big open arms!!

PS. Phone lines will be open this Friday for you to take part in the discussion or to win a prize! Call 877-864-4869.

If you are unable to listen live, but would like us to address something on the air please fill out this form!

Concrete Solutions for the Virtual Career Parent

We can talk about it, or we can actually do it.

If you listened to last week's show you know that we are heading into some uncharted territory- and that is exactly the way I like it.
Parents, if you have been listening in each week, you already have the motivation you need to make a change for the better. I have no doubt. What you don't have are the tangible solutions to put your enthusiasm into action.
To give you a quick recap, a new line-up of show topics was announced last week. These next 13 weeks we'll be bringing you step by step tutorials on things like approaching your current employer with a telecommute proposal, surviving as a family on a single salary, and how to effectively barter yourself and your services to compensate for what may be lacking in your bank account. We'll bring you already established home based business models, like mom blogging, virtual assisting and project management, and a whole lot more.

If the last 30 shows were about staying sane and surviving, then the next 30 will be about putting objectives into action and thriving.
On Friday, I will be welcoming a very important guest- so important that I can almost guarantee one show will not be enough for Mr. Brian Harmsen, Founder and CEO of Designworks Talent, LLC. An ex-colleague of mine from once upon a time, Brian is one of those rare individuals who has a true understanding of business industry trends, but more importantly, he has the outstanding ability to translate it for the rest of us dummys. (I say it with love.)
I have always known that Brian had no business working for anyone other than himself. Visionaries like Brian are not often rewarded for thinking outside of the box in Corporate America, but once set free to run without any limitations, they are literally able defy gravity. So when he told me he had opened up his own recruiting firm, it felt as if our team just landed the star player of the century. Parent or not,  as a business leader and entrepreneur he gets us, is rooting for us, and is able to inspire movement that is in favor of us.
To top it off, he'll be offering us insight that will drop your jaw to the ground. So place yourself at the front of the class, and get ready to take some notes. This is just the beginning of how you will begin to understand your place in the virtual workforce and in rediscovering your path to legitimate job security.

We are not just talking about it anymore, we are going to give you the guidance you've been asking for. The mission has not changed, but it just became a whole lot more progressive. Lets get you home.

Topics to be covered on Friday (time allowing) are:
New business models for a post-recession economy
Virtual business vs. telecommuting
Challenges with decentralized, autonomous workforces – specialized skills needed as professionals and leaders to be successful in a non-office workforce
Slow evolution of large companies to migrate to new ways of organizing and engaging talent
Growing need for professionals to rethink career, autonomy, flexibility (quality of life, childcare, elder care, values)

Top Ten Rules for Being a Work-At-Home Parent

I ran out of time on the show today, but as promised, here is the top ten list of rules that you should have for yourself to stay balanced, healthy and sane when trying to "do it all" from home:

  1. Slow down your pace: You are your own boss now...and no one else can slow it down for you. You have to take control and do it yourself.
  2. Work with other parents... not just because its good to support them and goes a long with the mission of OurMilkMoney...but because they are way more likely to understand this slower business pace. It’s becoming a trend. It’s actually catching on in the parent entrepreneur community- which is so fabulous. Just because we are sacrificing our time does not mean that we need to sacrifice the integrity of the work we do, and in most cases, the integrity is much greater than it was when it was being done in corporate America.
  3. Never apologize for your children... Other parents working with you on the other end of the phone call will respect it and pass it on in the community. You may excuse yourself to deal with your children while in the middle of a business call...but do not apologize for them. EVER.
  4. Do not attempt to work when you should be parenting. This is going to take some effort. You need to literally sit down and draw out a schedule- with your spouse... This is one example of how the family needs to work together to acheive the goal of bringing one parent home. You need to set aside time to work, and avoid doing it during the day when your kids need your attention... you cannot count on that as work time... that is bonus time if you happen to get some time away to answer emails...don’t rely on it or it will make you crazy- and your kids will learn to resent you for it. Keep the 2 activities as seperate as you possibly can.
  5. Set a cut off time. My time is 11pm. That is when I stop working, shut my lap top and climb into bed for an hour of a “wind down” activity. No work is allowed. I can watch TV, read, do a crossword, whatever, as long as its not work.
  6. Limit your hours on the weekend...that is family time. I know its hard...but give yourself some ground rules. I am not saying I don’t work on the weekends, but I’ve given myself guidelines such as this: I will not work more than 5 hours in a weekend, or if I work one day, I can’t work the next. Set limits.
  7. Make house chores fun time with the kids. It really does work. I’ve learned to get my kids involved in my household chores...doing laundry, meal time, cleaning up, grocery shopping.  I CAN include them in these things where I can’t include them when I am working. I try not to work in front of them anymore, but when I do... they resent it a lot less because they are getting ample attention from me at other times during the day.
  8. The "working spouse" has got to step up. I don’t want to hear the excuse “Don’t I get to relax?  I was working all day!” yeah....no... doesn’t fly in this century...we were all working all day and we have got to make sacrifices.
  9. Take time to enjoy your life. This is why you came home, isn’t it?  Call your own shots and be in charge of your own schedule!
  10. Schedule your own weekend at the "nuthouse" every once in awhile. Make a deal with your spouse and give each other 2 free "getaway" weekends a year. Check in to a motel and do nothing for a weekend. Rest, relax, reboot...get away and have no responsibilities for 2 days. If you can't afford a motel...house sit for a friend...visit a relative...just get away and DO NOTHING. It will recharge your batteries and keep you healthy.

The Truth Behind the Mask

They call me “supermom”.

That is because I am a mom, and I have super powers. How else would I be able to manage the chaos in my life and handle everything with a smile on my face without breaking a sweat?
Don’t believe me?
See for yourself: I have a very demanding 3 year old, and another who is 10 months. I am the founder of a national organization that caters to 10,000 recipients in 80 cities nationwide, and a host of my own radio show which airs live every week.  I am a leader, a motivator and a people mover, giving public seminars, weekly podcasts, volunteering to teach improvisation to inner city children, planning community events, writing guest blogs and articles to over 25 news sites, not including my own. I participate in my son’s pre-school a few times a month, go to all his t-ball practices, participate in weekly "baby time" at the library for my 10 month old, and still find time to run a household, go grocery shopping, prepare 3 meals a day and sleep. I do not have a nanny, rely on daycare, nor do I have any family close by (or even in the same state for that matter) to rescue me or my schedule.
That is why I am known as “supermom”.
But like any superhero, I have a secret identity. Behind the mask is a woman who struggles to maintain the balance of it all, has broken down on more than one occasion, exploded with Niagara Falls, water works hysterics, has turned to one too many bottles of wine in the middle of the day, screams at her husband “how DARE you ask me if you can hang out with the guys tonight???” and has made several “parenting” mistakes such as putting off a dirty diaper change to finish a blog- which resulted in a diaper rash for her infant son. Even as a superhero, I wonder how others are able to pull it off.
Look closer.
Is anyone really pulling it off?
What is this term, “supermom” really doing to our society? Does the term inspire, or intimidate? Does it put added pressure on the women of today that are trying to do it all?
The truth is I am no supermom.
I don’t have any super powers, and I certainly have a breaking point. The more women I speak to, the more I realize we are all very similar. Mothers today are simply amazing- but then again we HAVE to be. Of the women that I know that are working full time- or even part time- and raising a family and a household, none of them are doing it just because it’s fun for them, and they were looking for MORE in their lives. Most of us are doing it because it’s what is necessary for our families to survive in today’s world. Our families need us to try and bring in a supplemental income because one income is not enough from our husbands- not even those with college degrees and higher educations. It’s not their fault, and we certainly don’t blame them. It’s just the way it is these days.
Before you choose to let someone who seems to be able to do it all overawe you and minimize what you know you are capable of doing, LOOK CLOSER.
If there are days that you feel you are barely staying afloat, take a moment and look at the others in your very same pool treading water. Perhaps they are looking at YOU and wondering how you got YOUR superpowers. All the things that you accomplished today? You seem pretty amazing to me. I’d love to know your secret…
…or your secret identity. I think I might relate better to the woman behind the mask. The real person who falls down often, forgets to eat, lets the laundry pile up, and cries from the overwhelm. It feels better to unveil myself, come clean that I am not actually able to “pull it off” and laugh about it with others who often feel the same way I do. It’s a relief to know I don’t have to save the planet all on my own.
Again.
and again.
and again.

Radio Show Encourages Parents to Leave Steady Paycheck and Come Home

Moms and dads looking to bring at least one parent home to stay with their children at an age when two incomes are vital for a family’s survival will find their inspiration through activist and motivator, Ally Loprete, host of This Little Parent Stayed Home, a new live broadcast on Toginet.com Radio. The show is set to premiere on February 19, 2010, and will air each Friday 6-7pm EST, 3-4pm PST.

“Together we are rebuilding a new economy that will support us rather than enslave us” Loprete said. “Never again will we have to choose between raising our children and earning to provide for them. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.”

Being able to afford the luxury of keeping one parent home has become one of the most widely common goals in families across America today, yet most families don’t believe it’s possible to survive on only one income. This Little Parent Stayed Home speaks to BOTH parents in a way that encourages coming together as a family unit and using one’s available resources to adequately provide for their children in the best way possible for the family.

Radio Host Loprete is the founder of OurMilkMoney.com, an online search directory that lists the products and services of self-employed parents in more than 80 cities across the nation. Loprete has used her own passion to create a society where parents are given an alternative to expensive day cares and long hours away from home. Loprete’s work has inspired a movement that has parents everywhere realizing their power as consumers, and uniting together to rebuild a broken economy with home based businesses.

This Little Parent Stayed Home premieres Friday, February 19, 2010 3pm-4pm PST and 6pm-7pm EST on Toginet.com, a Live internet broadcast. The premiere show will include 50+ free giveaways from OurMilkMoney.com members – be sure to tune in for your chance to win!

The show will air each Friday, same time, and will also be available for download on itunes.
